Laser hair removal procedure

  • The area to be treated is cleansed with an alcohol based cleanser to ensure removal of creams, make-up and deodorant. If any product is left on the skin it could affect the hairs absorption of the laser light.
  • Eye protection is given to the patient to protect the eyes from any leaking of the laser light
  • Laser machine settings are adjusted to suit the patients skin and hair type
  • Treatment begins, using a hand-held wand a beam of light is directed in a 3mm-15mm area. The sensation is similar to an elastic band snapping at the skin. As the follicle is being destroyed the smell of burning hair will be apparent. Treatment could take anything from 5 minutes to up to an hour depending on the area being treated.
  • At the completion of treatment a cooling gel will be applied and if the area is to be exposed to sun then an SPF should also be applied as the skin will be slightly more sensitive to the sun.
  • Skin may look pink or red and may also be swollen but this should go down within 24 hours.
